daily SPF FAQ

We hope you’re as excited as we are about our new daily SPF! We’ve compiled the answers to some of your most frequently asked questions below - let us know if you have any others!

will this product break me out? is it heavy or greasy?

daily SPF was specifically formulated to avoid clogging pores and offer a lightweight, non-oily finish. Because everyone’s skin is unique, we encourage users who are concerned with sensitivity to patch test this product before using it on their entire face.

how long will one tube of this sunscreen last if I use it daily?

If used daily on the face and neck (which we recommend!), one tube will last about 1 month.

does it have an expiration date?

After opening, daily SPF lasts 12 months. See the date stamp at the top of your tube for the final expiration month and year (e.g. 062022 indicates a June 2022 expiration).

where does sunscreen fit into my skincare routine?

We recommend SPF as the final step in your skincare routine - after cleansing, toning, treating, and moisturizing, but before makeup (if you wear any!). Apply generously 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours.

why reapply every 2 hours?

The FDA recommends reapplication every 2 hours to prevent sun damage!

how much should I apply?

We recommend using a pea-sized amount of sunscreen on your chin, nose, forehead, and each cheek!

can this be used on the body?

Yes!

is this sunscreen safe for kids to use?

Though daily SPF is completely nontoxic, we recommend showing our ingredient list to your pediatrician to confirm safety!

is it safe to use during pregnancy?

Again, though this product is completely nontoxic, we always recommend showing the ingredient list to your doctor to confirm safety for you specifically!

can I wear this with makeup?

Yes! Thanks to the rice starch in our formula, daily SPF helps create an excellent base for makeup, similar to a primer.

If you wish to reapply our sunscreen over makeup, we recommend rubbing the product between your palms and then gently pressing it onto your face. We can’t guarantee that this won’t break up your makeup as it depends on the products you’re using!

is this sunscreen reef-safe?

Yes! The active ingredient of our formula is zinc oxide, which does not harm coral or other sea life.

are coconut alkanes and caprylic/capric triglyceride similar to coconut oil?

Though both of these ingredients are derived from coconuts, they are not similar to coconut oil!

Coconut alkanes is a light liquid that evaporates quickly and does not clog pores. It works as a natural silicone alternative and helps moisturize the skin.

Caprylic/capric triglycerides are also non pore-clogging - this ingredient is made by combining coconut oil with glycerin in a process that removes the pore-clogging portion. The resulting triglyceride is a lightweight oil with a silky feel. Both of these ingredients contribute to our sunscreen’s lightweight, non-oily finish!

does this sunscreen contain preservatives?

Yes - our formula features caprylhydroxamic acid, which is a natural, plant-derived preservative made out of amino acids!

what other ingredients does daily SPF contain?

See our full ingredient list and benefit breakdown here

does this double as a moisturizer?
No it does not - we recommend layering it over a moisturizer for best results! Our sunscreen was designed to be lightweight, so it does not replace a moisturizer.

do I still need to use sunscreen if I’m going to be indoors all day?

Yes! daily SPF also protects against blue light and pollution. Additionally, UVA rays can penetrate glass windows and damage skin even when you’re indoors!

why do I need protection against pollution?

91% of the world’s population lives in places where air quality exceeds World Health Organization guideline limits - that means that a vast majority of us are regularly exposed to pollutants that can damage our skin, including car exhaust, cigarette smoke, manufacturing byproducts, smog, volatile organic compounds, and particulate matter.

Pollution can disturb the skin’s microbiome and cause oxidative stress, leading to signs of premature aging. Some types of pollution, like small particulate matter, can even penetrate pores, triggering skin damage and inflammation and compromising the skin barrier.

why do I need protection against blue light?

Blue light, which we’re exposed to through sunlight, indoor light, and digital screens, can cause premature skin aging and damage just like UV rays can!

is daily SPF vegan?

Yes it is! Like all cocokind products, it’s also 100% cruelty-free.

how often do I need to reapply?

We recommend reapplying every 2 hours!

what does it smell like?

Our sunscreen does not contain fragrance, fragrant oils, or fragrant extracts - it’s completely unscented and its natural aroma is neutral.

does daily SPF provide broad spectrum protection?

Yes!

what does broad spectrum mean?

Broad spectrum sunscreens, like cocokind’s daily SPF, protect against both UVA and UVB damage. However, not all broad spectrum sunscreens also protect against blue light or pollution!

how can this product provide broad spectrum protection if it does not contain titanium dioxide?

Zinc oxide on its own is able to offer broad spectrum protection!

why SPF 32?

Our sunscreen has an SPF rating of 32, which is higher than both the American Academy of Dermatology and FDA minimum SPF recommendations. Our SPF 32 rating was determined by FDA-approved laboratory tests.

is daily SPF water and/or sweat resistant?

No it is not - it was designed to be a lightweight formula for daily use, so be sure to use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating heavily!

why does this product contain alcohol?

Not all alcohols are created equal! Our sunscreen uses plant-derived C8 and C10 fatty alcohols, which nourish and soften the skin instead of stripping it or drying it out. You can read more about these types of alcohols here!

is daily SPF tinted? does it leave a white cast?

Our formula is not tinted but it has been tested on a variety of skin tones. See for yourself here

how do I recycle daily SPF’s packaging?

Simply cut open the sugarcane tube, rinse it out, and toss it in your recycling bin along with the FSC-certified carton! Unfortunately, the cap is not recyclable due to its small size.

how should I store daily SPF?

Store your tube in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

is this product available in stores?
