Coconut oil is all the rage. You can cook with it, you can apply it to your skin. You could probably fix squeaky door hinges with it, (though we’re not willing to test that theory). If you use oils on your skin or hair, the coconut oil from your kitchen will probably do the trick. But if you’re looking for a more manageable way to incorporate the cure all into your beauty routine, check out a local beauty startup called Cocokind.
Coo-coo for coconut oil?>>

Founder Priscilla Tsai is a former Wall Street/finance type —and semi-recent Bay Area transplant— who started her company to respond to demand for clean skincare products. Priscilla tells Racked, “I had been using coconut oil out of the jar for a long time before it was popular.”

While the company has a focus on coconut, that’s not the only healthy oil you’ll find in the products. Cocokind’s balms, salves, and toners also include ingredients like rose hip oil, avocado oil, and tea tree oil. All of the products are cruelty-free, certified organic, and produced locally in Berkeley. The price point is similarly gentle: Lip balms start at $2.99 and the most expensive product (a rosewater toner) is only $16.99.

Currently, you can buy Cocokind at Berkeley Bowl and a few other local, natural markets in the East Bay. Priscilla is in talks to bring Cocokind to organic grocers in San Francisco as well, but for now it may be more efficient to order online.
