Meet Avery Albert (@avesavagee), a graduate in apparel design from RISD.  Her first collection was shown at NYFW this past September - check it out on Instagram and her website

Have you always been interested in clean beauty? When did this come about?

AS: Yes! Clean eating and beauty are incredibly important to me.  I've always been influenced by my mother - her beliefs regarding what you put in and on your body have been so impactful. I’ve been diligent with skincare routines since I started wearing makeup in middle school, around the time I first started experiencing frustrations with the state of my skin. I started using various skincare products, noticing the ingredients and making note of how I reacted to them.

Why is natural beauty important to you?

AS: I’ve always tried to use makeup and skincare products that are cruelty-free and vegan. I notice the difference in my skin almost immediately!  My skin is also incredibly sensitive so I have to be careful about certain products…but natural beauty, organic beauty gives me the best results and it's guilt free!

Where/from whom did you learn about skincare/makeup?

AS: Again, my mama! We share the same skin sensitivity and risk of sun damage due to our fair skin.  She’s always lathered me with sunscreen and recommended the best makeup and skin products for my complexion.

What is the most important step in your skincare/makeup routine?

AS: MOISTURIZING!!! I love to moisturize, and I do whatever I can to bring hydration back into my skin. I moisturize with a light oil when I wake up and then consistently apply consistently throughout the day.  I love the Golden Elixir and Chia Facial Oil are purrrrfect for on-the-go application: I can apply some on my face and hair in the AM and then reapply with the roller ball throughout the day.

The MyMatcha stick is my new obsession!  It goes on my lips, face, and hands - basically EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE.  It smells so wonderful and feels amazing…definitely a must for me everyday.

What is your morning “getting ready” routine?

AS: It varies! But if I make the time for it, I love a cold shower to wake myself up... if I wash my hair I apply coconut oil and Golden Elixir while I make some black tea (I gave up coffee a year ago). I’ll then take a lifetime choosing what to wear, no matter my plans for the day. I’m freelancing right now instead of working a full-time job, so my schedule is different everyday.

What is your favorite self care/beauty ritual?

AS: Definitely applying a face mask and lathering my hair with coconut oil! I love applying them together when I have the time to relax. Coconut oil is my favorite favorite skin/haircare ingredient — my hair soaks it right up and my skin loves it as well.

What skincare woes have you faced - how have you overcome them (or learned to embrace them!)

AS: I feel like I’ve been relatively lucky with my skin. I never had bad acne, I don’t experience hormone-induced breakouts and the only problem I seem to have is dryness! I really credit using clean beauty products and eating well - I notice a change in my skin immediately if some part of my routine is altered in any way.

What is the most valuable piece of beauty advice you have been given?

AS: Don’t try to cover blemishes with makeup! Let them breathe! Treat them with respect by using the right products.

What is your favorite cocokind product and how do you use it?

AS: I feel like I have a new favorite every week, but right now I’m obsessed with the Macabeet stick! It’s the most subtle, lovely shade for my lips and when applied on my cheeks it's the perfect, dewy finish that makes my skin glow. I like to drop a little bit of the sunrei highlighter to top it all off — the yellow-gold tone works well with my complexion and my new blonde hair!
