Unattainable beauty standards on social media are creating a mental health crisis.
Recent studies reveal an alarming picture of the mental health impact caused by our digital ecosystems:
• 11.8 years old is now the average age at which US smartphone users start using beauty filters. 🔗
• 72% of Gen Z reports that social media directly increases their anxiety. 🔗
• 1 in 3 teens explicitly state that it damages their body image and confidence. 🔗
• 1 in 3 women feel pressured to alter their appearance based on what they see online, even when they explicitly know the image is AI-generated. 🔗
• 75% of Gen Z girls report that filters pressure them to alter their real-life appearance. 🔗
Since day one, cocokind has stood for unapologetic self-love and helping our community feel beautiful and enough. But as people who live and work on the internet, we all know how hard that can be.
In May 2023, we launched our Bold Enough Pledge and now for this Mental Health Awareness Month, we are stepping it up by launching the #NoFilterPledge. This is more than a hashtag; a measurable commitment that we are calling on you to adopt alongside us.
By signing the #NoFilterPledge, you commit to:
• Zero beauty filters or face/body-altering tools.
• Zero AI generation used to alter faces and bodies.
• Zero negative commentary about anyone’s physical appearance on social media.
That’s it. It’s a simple standard, and honestly, it shouldn’t feel radical. But right now, it is.
Our goal for this pledge is to acquire at least 10,000 unique signatures by the end of May, and we know we can get there. A single pledge helps ensure that millions of people aren’t seeing filtered or AI-altered faces every day, and that kind of ripple effect could potentially make all the difference.
We encourage anyone who has signed to spread the word and share the #NoFilterPledge with their community. We would love to see you tag your friends, favorite creators, or other beauty brands you want to see step up alongside us.
