Ready for our next stop?
While our next ingredient is one of the tiniest superfoods, it packs a ton of power! We’re off to Mexico for some nutrient-packed CHIA SEEDS.
Chia seeds are one of our favorite superfoods in the world. From sprinkling them on top of salads, oatmeal, and even using them as an egg replacement, it seems that the whole wellness scene has gone crazy for ch-ch-ch-chia!
But as new as they are in the health food spotlight, chia seed dishes are actually believed to date all the way back to Aztec culture. Originating in Mexico with the name derived from the Native Mexican word “chian”, or “oily”, chia seeds have been a stable source of nutrition, and were once even a form of currency. The seeds contain high levels of protein, fiber, and omega fatty acids.
In Mexico, chia seeds are often consumed in Chia Fresca, a water or juice-based drink with chia seeds, or Pinole, a flour made of dried maize and chia seeds (yum!). We wanted to borrow this amazing ingredient and use it on our body… because that’s just what we tend to do as total #skincarejunkies.
